Frequently Asked Questions

Answered plainly. The way OBrecs answers everything.

What is OBrecs?

OBrecs is a Winnipeg-based bespoke practice serving family and legacy businesses across Canada and the northern United States with bespoke web development and workflow automation.

Where is OBrecs located?

OBrecs is based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. We serve family and legacy businesses across Canada and the northern United States — based in Winnipeg with Manitoba as our home market (Winnipeg, Brandon, Steinbach, Portage la Prairie, Selkirk, Morden, Winkler, Dauphin, Thompson), and proud reach into Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Quebec, Atlantic Canada, and the territories — and into the northern United States: Alaska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Montana, Wyoming, and Utah.

What does OBrecs offer?

Two services. One standard. Bespoke Web Development. Workflow Automation. The Foundation Audit is the free entry point — 30 minutes, no obligation, the written summary is yours whether you hire OBrecs or not.

What is bespoke web development?

A custom web presence measured before it is cut, fitted to the customers who already know your name, and owned by you when we are done. No template. No SaaS lock-in. No agency retainer disguised as ownership.

What is workflow automation?

Intake, hand-offs, and reminders automated for the way your business actually runs — not how a SaaS vendor wishes it ran. Built on proven tools (n8n, Make, native cloud integrations, sometimes bespoke code) — whichever fits the job.

What is the Foundation Audit?

A free 30-minute review of your current web presence and workflow surface, with a written summary delivered in plain language. No obligation. The summary is yours whether you hire OBrecs or not.

How much does the Foundation Audit cost?

Nothing. It is free. No obligation. The written summary is yours whether you hire OBrecs or not.

Who is OBrecs for?

Family and legacy businesses across Canada and the northern United States — those who have already earned their place, built reputation over years or generations, and want to survive and then flourish in the AI-impacted business environment that is just at its genesis. Typically businesses with less than $10 million in annual revenue.

What businesses are NOT a fit for OBrecs?

OBrecs is not the right fit for businesses looking for the cheapest possible website, businesses wanting to lock customers into the OBrecs ecosystem, or businesses wanting hype-driven AI promises. We are a bespoke craft practice for businesses that value being measured before they are cut.

Why is the practice called Bespoke?

The name is a homage. A Master Tailor and an Expert Seamstress taught us what the cloth means. The work is measured before it is cut, fitted to the one who will wear it, and immaculate on the inside as well as on the outside. Made to Measure. Fitted Pristinely. Yours to Wear.

How do I contact OBrecs?

Email bespoke@obrecs.com. We typically reply within one business day. Conversations begin with the free Foundation Audit — 30 minutes, no obligation.

What technology does OBrecs use?

For web development: WordPress with custom block themes when it fits, custom HTML/CSS when it suits, the right tool for the actual work. For workflow automation: n8n, Make, native cloud integrations, and bespoke code where bespoke is needed. We use AI as part of the toolkit when it earns its place — not as a magic engine.

How does OBrecs use AI in client work?

AI is a tool we use carefully — the way a master uses a sewing machine. We use it for classification, routing, and summarization where it makes the work cleaner. We do not use it to replace the craftsman or the human judgment. When we use AI on your behalf, you will know what we used it for, where the human judgment came in, and what stays human-only.

What is OBrecs’s pricing model?

Foundation Audit is free with no obligation. Build engagements are scoped against what the audit found — we tell you what it costs before you commit. Maintenance retainer is optional and explicit, never bundled or implied.

Does OBrecs serve businesses outside Winnipeg?

Yes. OBrecs serves family and legacy businesses across Canada and the northern United States. We are based in Winnipeg, with Manitoba as our home market, and proud reach into Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Quebec, the Atlantic provinces, and the territories — and into the northern United States: Alaska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Montana, Wyoming, and Utah. The Bespoke standard travels — local presence is augmented by video conversation, phone, and the discipline of remote relational care that the family-business standard requires.

When was OBrecs founded?

OBrecs was founded in 2018.

What languages does OBrecs work in?

English.

What is the ‘Made to Measure. Fitted Pristinely. Yours to Wear.’ phrase?

It is OBrecs’s standing standard, summarising the three beats of the bespoke tradition: the work is measured to fit you, refined to standard, and given to you to wear in the world. The phrase echoes the Pristine Pass discipline that governs how OBrecs verifies every substantive piece of work before it ships.

If you’d like to see what the OBrecs standard looks like in practice, the case study and the AI Search Optimization methodology are both detailed on this site.

AI Search Optimization, Process & Tooling

What is AI Search Optimization?

AI Search Optimization is the work of positioning your business to be the named recommendation when buyers ask AI assistants like ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Google AI Overview, and Perplexity for help in your category. OBrecs offers AI Search Optimization as a 90-day phased engagement built on five levers: technical foundation (structured data schemas), content authority (long-form pillar pages), entity reinforcement (third-party authoritative source presence), query mapping (the natural-language questions your buyers actually ask, mapped to your content), and measurement (baseline plus recurring re-measurement). Full methodology at obrecs.com/ai-search-optimization.

How long does an AI Search Optimization engagement take?

Ninety days, structured as three thirty-day phases. Phase 1 (days 1-30): foundation deployed, AI visibility baseline established, first content pillars shipped. Phase 2 (days 31-60): remaining content pillars shipped, entity reinforcement substantially complete, competitive teardown on top one to two named competitors. Phase 3 (days 61-90): final content waves, internal linking architecture optimized, ninety-day report delivered with measured AI visibility improvement. Each phase has clear exit criteria you see measurably.

How is AI Search Optimization measured?

We pre-register the measurement methodology before any work begins to prevent post-hoc gaming of results. Each query gets a three-state classification: cited as primary, cited as one-of-N alternatives, or not cited. We track Primary Citation Rate and Visibility Rate across the query universe per re-measurement window. Acceptance criteria are stated as hard 30, 60, and 90-day verdicts. You see measured progress, not abstract activity reports.

What is schema markup and why does it matter?

Schema markup is structured data, in a format called JSON-LD, that you add to your website pages to tell search engines (and AI engines) what each page is about. Schema helps Google show rich results (FAQ panels, star ratings, breadcrumbs). It also helps AI engines extract facts about your business reliably when they synthesize answers about your category. For a North American small business, good schema markup is one of the highest-leverage technical foundation moves available. OBrecs implements schema as part of every engagement, owned by you in your CMS.

What is the difference between the OBrecs Foundation Audit and a regular SEO audit?

A regular SEO audit reviews technical SEO factors (page speed, mobile experience, structured data, internal linking) and outputs a list of recommendations. The OBrecs Foundation Audit covers those technical factors plus three additional surfaces a regular SEO audit usually skips: how AI engines currently see your business (the AI visibility surface), your Google Business Profile (the storefront sign for local discovery), and your email and domain authentication posture (deliverability and trust signals). The Foundation Audit also produces a written summary in plain language with honest commentary on what does not need to change.

What workflow automation tools does OBrecs use?

OBrecs uses established open-source automation engines (n8n, Make, custom code where warranted), connected through APIs to the existing systems your business already runs on (accounting, CRM, e-commerce, GBP, GA4). The automation lives in your accounts, owned by you, configured to match your operation. We do not lock the work behind agency-proprietary systems. The client could, in principle, walk away from OBrecs tomorrow with no loss of substrate.

Why Bespoke instead of a SaaS workflow template?

Most SaaS workflow platforms force your business into their template assumptions. Workarounds for template constraints don’t stay invisible: the team learns the workarounds, training duplicates, documentation grows in layers, and cognitive overhead grows beyond what the automation was supposed to save. The Bespoke alternative fits the automation to your business’s specific operational practices instead of fitting your business to a template. Do you have client results I can see?

Yes. Our anonymized case study covering a Manitoba industrial distributor with three decades of heritage is published at obrecs.com/case-studies. Verified results include a fourteen-times Google Business Profile discoverability lift, Google AI Overview citing the client’s educational pages as a primary source, Google AI Mode placing the client as the primary authorized master distributor for a major brand they distribute in Canada, and six of the top ten organic positions on the client’s heritage brand-plus-geographic query. The case study includes honest framing on what we do not claim.

What happens after I request a Foundation Audit?

Within one business day, OBrecs replies to schedule a thirty-minute call at a time that works for you. Before the call, we do a brief pre-review of your website and Google Business Profile so we arrive prepared. The call itself is conversational and focused on your specific business context. Within a few business days after the call, you receive a written summary in plain language with the three to five highest-leverage moves we identified, priorities, and honest commentary on what does not need to change. The summary is yours to keep regardless of whether you hire OBrecs.

Can OBrecs work with my existing website? I don’t want to rebuild everything.

Yes. Most OBrecs engagements work with the client’s existing CMS (typically WordPress) and improve the substrate without replacing it. The Bespoke standard’s discipline of measuring before cutting means we identify what is already serving your business well (and should be preserved) before recommending any rebuild work. Full website rebuilds are sometimes the right answer when the existing site is structurally unsound, but they are not the default. The honest finding governs.
