The work, measured.
Anonymized results from real engagements — what we measured, and what changed.
A Bespoke practice doesn’t measure itself by activity. It measures itself by what compounds for the client. Below is one engagement, told plainly, with verified results from the client’s own admin surfaces.
A Manitoba Industrial Distributor · Three Decades of Heritage
A Manitoba industrial distributor with three decades of heritage in their vertical — distributing portable industrial heating, cooling, and diesel generator equipment across North America and the United States. Family-acquired through a recent ownership transition. Operating from a Winnipeg warehouse with truck delivery across western Canada and to Alaska. Two-person operational team. Single Google Business Profile. WordPress + WooCommerce website inherited from prior ownership.
The State at Engagement Open
Heritage of operational excellence — but a digital presence not matching the trade.
- Website structurally sound but content not optimized for the AI-search era buyers were already operating in
- Google Business Profile carried strong historical reviews but had not been actively managed
- Brand authority signals were thin — the 30+ year operational history was not visible in the digital substrate
- The cooling-side of the business was largely invisible in search even though it carried significant inventory and brand-distribution rights with multiple premium manufacturers
- No measurement framework existed for tracking AI-search authority
In plain terms: a real business with real heritage had a digital footprint that did not earn the trust the operation in person earned every day.
The OBrecs Approach
OBrecs measured the foundation before cutting. Three areas of work co-developed across the engagement.
1 · Web Substrate (the workshop the client owns)
Built educational pillar pages, brand hub pages, decision guides, and interactive calculators directly on the client’s existing WordPress site. Every page authored to be substrate-true — the client’s actual products, the client’s actual brand portfolio, the client’s actual application contexts — never generic SaaS-template content. Schema deployed at the page level for AI-citation discoverability. Internal linking compounded the architecture into a coherent knowledge cathedral.
2 · Google Business Profile (the storefront sign)
The client’s GBP was refined to pristine standard: categories audited and corrected, services panel deployed across four operational verticals, business description authored in the owner’s voice, photo gap closed, posts cadence pre-positioned for the active season. Verified reviews received owner-voice responses.
3 · Measurement Framework (the proof of work)
A Northern SEO Experiment methodology was pre-registered before measurement to prevent post-hoc gaming. An AI Visibility Measurement Framework was authored as a parallel sibling for the cooling-side of the business. Pre-registered three-state acceptance criteria with a hard 30-day window verdict.
Measured Results
These are substrate-true numbers, captured during the engagement and verifiable from the client’s own admin surfaces.
Google Business Profile · 14× discoverability multiplier (verified)
A coordinated sprint deploy (categories + services panel + business description + six posts + photo source identification) measured a fourteen-times lift in profile discoverability within hours of deploy. Profile interactions tracking confirmed the multiplier. Validation cross-checked against AI Mode synthesis on Manitoba authority queries within six hours of deploy — the GBP rebuild placed the client as Manitoba’s authoritative cooling and heating distributor in AI synthesis.
Google AI Overview · BTU Calculator (verified)
Within hours of the client’s BTU Calculator going live on their WordPress site, Google AI Overview cited it as the top source for “How to calculate BTU for warehouse heating?” The same Overview synthesis also cited the client as one of seven sources for “What’s the difference between direct-fired and indirect-fired portable heaters?” and as the first cited source for “Diesel vs propane vs electric portable heater — which one?”
In plain terms: when buyers ask Google these questions, Google is now telling them this client knows the answer.
Google AI Mode · Primary Source citation (verified)
For a flagship brand-and-geographic query in the client’s vertical, Google AI Mode synthesizes the client as the primary authorized master distributor for that brand in Canada. Two of the twelve right-rail citation cards in the same AI Mode result are the client’s own pages. The client is the canonical answer source in AI synthesis for the highest-intent brand+geographic query in their vertical.
Organic Search · brand+geographic dominance (verified)
For the brand the client has distributed for 33 years, Google’s top-10 organic results show the client’s pages occupying six of the top ten positions — the brand authority that 33 years of operational distribution earned, now visible in the digital substrate. Generic-query performance reflects the same compound: the client holds #1 organic positions on “best portable indirect-fired heater” and “portable heater distributor Alaska” (US-IP search).
Substrate Depth · what AI engines can extract (verified)
Across the engagement, 30+ FAQ schema items were added to the client’s site at canonical pillar pages and interactive calculator surfaces. Each FAQ item is structured for direct AI extraction — question-shaped headings, fact-dense bodies, brand-specific model references, application-engineering context. Four new vertical pillar pages were authored (warehouse cooling, server room cooling, mining camp cooling, data center cooling) — each a long-form definitive answer for the cooling-vertical queries the client’s market is asking.
What This Engagement Reveals About the OBrecs Standard
- Substrate-true work compounds quickly. The 14× GBP discoverability lift, the AI Overview citation, and the AI Mode primary-source position were not separate achievements. They were the natural consequence of work done at the substrate layer — schema, content, FAQ depth, internal linking — performed at the standard the heritage of the client’s business deserved.
- Bespoke is the right answer for legacy businesses, not template work. The client’s content is uniquely theirs. No competitor can copy this work because the substrate is the client’s own substrate. The work serves the client’s customers; it does not feed a SaaS vendor’s template library.
- The client owns every seam. OBrecs does not lock the work behind agency-proprietary systems. WordPress remains the client’s CMS. Schema markup is in the client’s pages, owned by the client. The client could, in principle, walk away from OBrecs tomorrow with no loss of substrate.
The OBrecs Standard, in One Sentence
Measure before we cut. Fit to the one client who will wear it. Make the work immaculate on the inside as well as on the outside. The customer who hires us owns every seam.
What This Case Study Does Not Claim
- We do not claim attribution for organic revenue lift (causation vs correlation honest reading; the GBP discoverability metric is the directly-attributable measurement)
- We do not claim the AI Overview citation will persist forever (Google AI synthesis evolves; substrate-quality is what we build for)
- We do not claim the engagement was without surprises (substrate audit revealed issues that required honest conversations; that’s part of the standard)
- We do not make this case study available without anonymization (client’s right to commercial privacy; we share substance, not name)

What this means if you run a trades, construction, or distribution business
The business above is a family distributor with three decades of heritage — the kind of established, hard-won operation the shift to AI-driven search tends to leave behind. The same levers apply to any trades, construction, or distribution company: become the business the AI engines can read, trust, and recommend, and the customer reaches you first instead of the competitor down the road. That is the entire aim of our work in this sector. See our approach for trades, construction, and distribution businesses →
